Ilima, a native Hawaiian and certified cultural practitioner, specializes in lomi lomi, a deeply nurturing massage rooted in her upbringing and traditions passed down by her kupuna. Named after a revered healing plant by her Tutu (grandmother), she has dedicated her life to helping others heal. In addition to lomi lomi, Ilima integrates myofascial release, Thai yoga massage, and grief massage to create personalized sessions that honor each client’s unique needs. With an intuitive approach, she listens to both her clients and their bodies, ensuring a deeply restorative experience. Outside of work, she finds joy in travel, gardening, and giving back to her community.

What drew you to Massage therapy?

As a native Hawaiian, I was raised in the tradition of lomi lomi, learning from my kupuna (elders) and practicing on family members since I was just 7 years old. My Tutu (grandmother) named me Ilima, after a revered healing plant, which set me on a lifelong path of helping others heal. Massage, to me, is a powerful form of communication--one that speaks directly to the body and soul. I am honored to share this unique gift of healing with those in need, carrying forward a practice rooted in my culture and heart.

What type of massage do you specialize in?

As a certified Hawaiian cultural practitioner, I specialize in lomi lomi--a deeply nurturing and rhythmic massage rooted in centuries of tradition. In addition to lomi lomi, I am trained in myofascial release, deep tissue, Thai yoga massage, and Healing Touch. I'm also expanding my skills to include grief and prenatal massage. Each modality serves a different purpose, but together they allow me to personalize sessions for the unique needs of every client. Whether you're seeking relaxation, relief, or rejuvenation, there is a pathway to healing here.

Why did you choose this type of massage?

Lomi lomi is in my blood--it chose me as much as I chose it. My Tutu taught me the practice, passed down through generations, and I've carried it forward ever since. This sacred tradition has allowed me to be present during life's most profound moments, from welcoming new life to comforting those nearing their final chapter. To complement lomi lomi, I've pursued studies in myofascial work, Thai yoga massage, and grief massage. These additional modalities allow me to better understand the body and support clients with diverse needs ensuring they receive care that honors their journey.

How do your talents benefit your patients?

My approach to massage is deeply intuitive. I listen--not only to what my clients say but also to what their bodies are communicating during the session. By paying close attention to subtle changes and avoiding a "one-size-fits-all" method, I can provide highly personalized care that promotes true healing and relief. Every session is tailored to where you are in that moment, ensuring your mind, body and spirit feel seen and supported.

What is your favorite health tip to give your patients?

It's simple: deep, diaphragmatic breathing and staying hydrated. Both are easy, completely free, and make a world of difference in reducing stress, improving circulation, and supporting your body's natural healing process.

What is your favorite hobby outside of work?

I have a deep love for travel, especially exploring destination spas--whether here in the U.S. or abroad. Fiji, in particular, is a favorite for its stunning sea shells! When I'm home, I enjoy gardening and connecting with the land. Giving back is also close to my heart--I've volunteered massage services for community outreach events, including helping elected officials and individuals experiencing homelessness.

What would you tell a patient that is nervous about getting their first massage?

It's perfectly natural to feel a little nervous about your first massage, but it's also an exciting opportunity to care for yourself. I encourage you to share any concerns you have--before, during, or after the session--so we can ensure you feel completely comfortable and relaxed. No question is too small, and your comfort is always the priority. This is your time to heal, unwind and experience the benefits of massage.
