Languages Spoken: English
With a deep passion for helping others heal, Garry Wakely found his way to massage therapy after training in Occupational Therapy, later realizing it was his true calling. Specializing in Deep Tissue massage, he loves the satisfaction of helping clients release stubborn tension and feel immediate relief. He creates a judgment-free space where clients can relax, knowing they are in control of their session. Beyond the physical benefits, he believes massage is a collaboration that supports both body and mind. His top health tip? Stretch! The body isn’t meant to be hunched over all day. When he’s not helping clients feel their best, you’ll find him in the garden, enjoying the healing power of nature.

What drew you to Massage therapy?

It is my deep wish to help people heal and improve their lives.  I got a small amount of massage training during my Occupational Therapy training, and many years later, when I was looking at changing careers, Massage made it’s way back into my life.  I jumped at the chance to get certified as a Massage Therapist, and LOVE it - I wish I had done this 35 years ago!

What type of massage do you specialize in?

Deep Tissue.  I can certainly do a great Swedish style relaxation massage, but little is as deeply satisfying as having a client get up off my table and say “WOW!  That feels SO much better!” when I have been working out stubborn knots or tight muscles with Deep Tissue techniques.

Why did you choose this type of massage?

In some ways it chose me.  Many of the clients that I have had in the past will come in for a massage, not knowing what the different styles are and how they can be of benefit.  Once I consult with them, I have found that a large number would be best served with Deep Tissue massage rather than a straight-forward Swedish style massage, as their issues are more focused and medical in nature.  In order to improve my services, I specifically took a class in Deep Tissue in 2024, and now incorporate elements of that in all of the sessions I provide.

How do your talents benefit your patients?

I am able to help my clients recognize where they are holding tension in their bodies, and my therapeutic touch can definitely help relieve some of that tension/tightness.  I believe that my personality and approach can also be of benefit to my clients - many come to therapy with issues that go beyond just the physical, and sometimes just having a neutral ear to listen to them proves as beneficial as a therapeutic touch session.

What is your favorite health tip to give your patients?

Stretch!  We are not designed to be hunched over desks all day long - the body needs to be stretched to be in good condition.

What is your favorite hobby outside of work?

Gardening.

What would you tell a patient that is nervous about getting their first massage?

Relax.  Massage is a collaboration and you are in total control.  I will check in with you at times about my pressure, but if it is ever too much, or too little, please let me know.  There is no judgement on my table - I don’t care if you have or have not shaved your legs, I don’t judge your weight or body shape - you are a person who deserves all the grace and kindness that I can provide while you are on my table.
